It was a great experience with only three people total in the group. A nice and super friendly driver that explained quite a bit about the landscape around. What you will see on this tour is mindblowing and the organization by Howlander as well as the local agency is great. Also vegetarian option was very carefully paid attention to and never a problem. Would highly recommend!

The whole excursion was great. Our guide, Rene, was absolutely fantastic. We saw way more than we were expecting. The Uyuni Salt flats at the end of the trip were worth waiting for and were the highlight of the trip.

Amazing tour with local Bolivian agency Tambo Loma and Chilean agency Estrella del Sur. Itinerary was fantastic and well curated and Isidro our guide was amazing and so kind and friendly. I speak a fair deal of Spanish so was great for me but be prepared as the drivers don't speak much English! I am vegetarian and was well catered for with eggs at every meal or soy for protein after I made the agency aware! 

Stay at the first hostel was more basic but still was nice and better than I thought and hotel for the second night is very nice! Really easy way to handle crossing the border and the 4x4 car was great for the rough terrain! Think this is really good value for money

We had a great time. The tour itself was brilliant and the driver was excellent. The only thing to mention was that the attention to vegetarians wasn't always very good. Sometimes the kitchen would forget and we would end up eating plain rice for dinner.
The drivers could also be a bit more informative about schedules. Sometimes we had to ask when we were leaving as this information wasn't volunteered.

It is an amazing travel, the natural spectacular along our way is as great as every document records. The service, is far beyond our expectation. Our driver/guide/cook/photographer Luis did a wonderful job and took excellent care of everyone in his group. I highly recommend Howlanders and the local agency Expediciones Estrella de Sur to every traveler who wants to explore the beauty of South America.

I really enjoyed the trip with a wonderful driver. The only bad experience was the room my daughter and I had the first night of the trip which I think was called Vina del Mar.
The toilet flooded, and taking a shower was impossible. It was a room that should not have been rented out.

Overall a very satisfying trip. Instructions on pickup was clear and subsequent communications via watsapp. Local group running the tour was great. We had a great driver and lovely companions in our vehicle. Driver explained certain attractions in Spanish as noted in the booking... We were lucky that one in our group was able to speak some Spanish. Took lovely pictures for us at Salt Flats. Safe driving and fun. Rooms are basic but came with hot water and were clean. Highly recommended local tour operator arranged by Howlander.

It was really cool!! Very recommended, our driver Heber was really kind and funny. Only reason for a 4 stars instead of 5 is that sometimes we wanted a bit more info regarding the places we visited. And maybe the Villa Mar hostel lacked a little cleanness. Otherwise, it was excellent and recommended.

Bring masks if you care about your lung health. So dusty everywhere!

Fantastic tour! We had a great guide (Arial). It was great value and there were many spectacular sights. First nights accommodation was basic but second night was very good. Food basic but good enough

We had a really great time.  It was a really challenging experience at times because of our ages and abilities for climbing.  But we did do most everything offered.  Our group had young people who really looked out for us and helped when needed.  We had to change driver and vehicle at the beginning of the trip but the driver they sent to replace him was great!  Sorry I don’t recall his name.  Accommodations were good also.  Glad we didn’t miss it just wish it had been about 10 years ago.

Amazing tour, magnificent views of the Bolivian Altiplano. Really happy that I have decided to do it although I knew from the beginning that the accommodation especially the 1st night is basic. Travelling with a 4*4 vehicle was not easy due to limited space, but taking into consideration the road conditions it is the only option. Definitely the vehicle could have been in a better condition.  In any case the whole experience is unique. The Salar Uyuni Salt Flats and the Bolivian Altiplano gave me unforgettable views. Berni our guide took great photos.

Absolutely fantastic tour!! Shared it with fellow English speakers to make the experience more comfortable. The food was great and the driver (Rene) made the experience even better. The scenery was breathtaking.

It was a great tour that offered a lot, definitely recommended if looking to see the salt flats.  My sister and I booked the private room tour knowing we would only have a Spanish guide/driver however people on our tour were really helpful in translating and the guide/driver would speak a bit of English to help! The only downside is the first hostal we stayed at was really cold and only had a sleeping bag as a blanket - we travelled during winter and it was really cold in our room, other than that everything was pretty good for a 3 day tour but for winter be prepared to rug up as it really gets cold in the desert!

Our driver/guide Rene was great. Accommodation on 2nd night (Salt Hotel) was fab. Accommodation on 1st night - new hostel - needs a few places to hang things in room and in the shower. All the staff were lovely.

The tour was great, our guide Isidro was amazing he spoke very slow clear Spanish so that we could understand him and get the most out of the trip. He drove really well and very safely, so we felt very comfortable the entire time. I am also vegan and was catered for the entire time with delicious food! 

One quite significant negative that I would mention is that 4/6 of our group did get food poisoning/ a stomach bug from the first hostel we stayed. The hostel also had no hot water for any of us. I’ve noticed another review has said the same, so might be time to swap from that hostel!

The experience was amazing and very unique.
The price was quite expensive compared to other agencies, and I'm not sure why.
The food provided was very scarce, and I felt hungry most of the time!

I had an amazing time on this tour! The trip matched the itinerary given and I enjoyed all the stops. Our driver Rilmar was great - very knowledgable, spoke clear Spanish, kindly took lots of photos, was flexible about how long we wanted to spend at each place... Would happily recommend the tour to other travellers!

This tour was an incredible way to experience some spectacular sights of Bolivia, and after doing research on several tours and companies, I  was pleased with the responses I got via email, and Howlanders set us up with a tour through Estrella de Sur, which is definitely the right choice. Estrella de Sur was great, from providing critical information about the border crossing and visa requirements for US citizens to being punctual and accurate in the itinerary descriptions. Yes, some of the accommodations are modest and the roads are rough, but as long as you bring toilet paper and remember where in the world you are, it will be fine. 

Our driver and guide, Rolando Flores, was fantastic. His Spanish was very clear and easy to understand, and his explanations of history, geography, and nature really added to the experience. He was also friendly and took amazing pictures of us along the way. I could tell he took pride in his job and always made sure we were having a good time.

Our group was amazing. I was much older than my companions but we got on really well. The journey, activities and landscape were fantastic. The driver was excellent and he tried to speak clear understandable Spanish but he knew no English. However there was one major problem: 5 of the 6 of us in our group including myself (and several of our companion group) fell ill with severe food poisoning on the first night from the meal in the first hotel. One of our group was taken to a clinic. On the second day I was too weak to do much of The activities and on the 3rd day we had to skip some of the places on the itinerary to get to Uyuni quickly. Please do not use that caterer or hotel on the first night. And tell people to bring antibiotics for the journey

The three day trip from San Pedro Atacama to Uyuni was amazing. Changing environments and out of this world scenary the entire way. The local tour provider was very good, communication was good through what's app in the lead up and although we didn't have an English speaking guide between duolingo English on their side and duolingo Spanish on our side we were able to communicate effectively and understood where we were and what we were doing throughout the trip.

Our guides Ariel and Maykel were fantastic, respectful, attentive and also brought some humour to the tour, we all had fun! Also very good at helping us take memorable photos particularly on the salt flats. 

Breakfast, lunch and dinner in good quantity was supplied for each day of the tour. They kept us all full and happy. The home cooked meals were a nice change from ordinary travel food where you are eating out for every meal.

The tour was great. The guide,  Armando was excellent! We saw all the spots along the way that were mentioned in the itinerary. The food was great as well, actually better than we expected it to be. We would definitely highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic trip. Would recommend to anyone. Might be tricky if you don't understand Spanish as the driver didn't speak English so you might have to consider getting a guide. Good fun though and spectacular scenery.

The trip was overall great! Howlanders put the very reputable Estrella del Sur in charge of executing the tour. We were three jeeps in total, making up 18 passengers. However, we mostly stayed with the group of our own vehicle. Our driver / guide - Jimmy - spoke very easy to understand Spanish and drove like a true pro. We felt safe with him at all times and he was very knowledgeable. The food - also the veggie options - was always tasty and actually very nutritious. We never went hungry.

Good to know: 1) Yes, you spend a lot of time sitting in a small space in a jeep, just be aware that that’s what you’re getting into. 2) the accommodation on the first night is rather basic, but totally fine 3) you can probably navigate and tell the guide where you want to spend more and less time. The highlights for us were: Laguna Colorada, laguna negra and of course the salt flats. If it were up to us, we could have skipped or skimmed the different rock formations.

The biggest pros: 1) the route our drivers took through the Uyuni salt flat was not taken by anyone else, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. This is something by far not all tour operators do. 2) there was a slight mix up with the accommodation on the first night. Estrella del Sur handled that very professionally and cordially and offered a partial refund to us to make up for it. This was very generous and a sign of great customer service.

Vincente great guide /driver/host but no English at all. Fortunately we had a Spanish speaker to translate.
Hotels basic, as expected. Food quality  below par, but adequate fuel on a trip like this. Breakfasts were good.  Wifi should be free as standard in all hotels. And of good quality. Back seats of the 4 x4 very limited leg room, so we took turns. I didn't receive a ny detailed information about itinerary  stays, the route, distances, timings or altitudes which would have been useful to manage expectation and also altitude sickness. The tour itself was utterly amazing, the natural landscapes and rock formations were stunning and worth every bit of discomfort that one expects to experience on such a trip.

Really enjoyed this tour, so many great stops and our guide Marcelo was lovely, insightful and very professional. The food on the tours was also plentiful, all was planned perfectly, highly reccomend.

The San Pedro - Uyuni tour is an absolute must do, my friend and I loved it. Crispin, our tour guide was amazing the whole time!! It was organised very well down to every detail. The views, accomodation and food were all great.

Vicente a été un chauffeur exceptionnel. Merci à lui pour ce voyage qui a été super. Les arrêts sont supers et bien trouvés, nous avons presque réussi à être seuls tout le temps. Petits déjeuners vraiment supers et diners également. Les 2 premiers déjeuners très bien
Seuls petits points moins biens : le cimetière des trains à uyuni (pas vraiment dans nos sites préférés), le repas du midi à uyuni (nous aurions préféré manger froid, et sur le salar) et l'absence de chauffage pendant le diner dans l'hotel de sel.
Attention, nous avions acheté 2L/pers et par jour avant le départ et heureusement, car nous n'avons pas vu de boutique sur la route. Papier toilette inutile, il y en avait partout
Pensez peut être à préciser pour les prochains, que les toilettes sont toujours payantes (même si c'est seulement quelques BOB)

I really enjoyed our trip! We saw a lot of cool and new things I have never seen. Edgard was our tourguide and he could tell us everything perfectly about the trip, he was a nice guy and he perfectly prepared every day!

We selected the 3 days, 2 nights tour from San Pedro to Uyuni. The border control on the first day was well organised. The 4x4 was very comfy and all of the sights we seen during the 3 days were totally worth the trip. The tour included 2 nights in 2 hostels and 7 meals in total, combined with our guide Walter, who was fantastic, this made the tour incredible value for money. We will absolutely be back!

Great tour in exploring the salt flats. Everything was taken care of and everything was being thoroughly briefed beforehand. Pickup at hotel, meals included, hotels were being booked. Great driver who surprisingly knows where to go in the great desert without navigation. Great experience!

We spent 3 days on a tour between San Pedro de Atacama and Uyuni. 
The 3 days were amazing with stunning scenery and extraordinary landscapes. 
Carlos liked after us well and the food and care was amazing. My food allergies were adhered to. 
Possibly too much time with another group taking photos. We’d booked a private tour for the 3 of us.

Ein echtes kleines Abenteuer mit eingeschränktem Komfort aber unglaublichen Eindrücken. Sehr gut organisiert, engagierten, sehr aufmerksamer Fahrer, der leider nur Spanisch konnte. Glücklicherweise sind wir mit einer französischen Familie gereist die das Wesentliche auf Englisch übersetzt hat. 
Es ist absolut zu empfehlen sich vorher auf die Höhe vorzubereiten. Es geht bis fast 4700 mtr Höhe und die erste Nacht ist auf 4000 mtr. Höhe. Es ist eigentlich zu empfehlen die Tour von Uyuni nach San Pedro de Atacama zu machen, wir haben es anders herum gemacht und hatten beide mit mittleren Höhenkrankheitsymtomen zu kämpfen. Aber letztlich ein Erlebnis, das wir nicht missen wollen.

I loved everything about this trip! Unfortunately, I miss placed my backpack, but my driver, Santy, did everything he could to try to help me recover it. Despite that setback, I had amazing time and I would recommend it to anyone.

The tour, guide, food and accommodation were excellent. However the attitude of staff in the lead up to going was bloody minded, unsympathetic and unhelpful because I didn’t have the correct immigration paperwork and unfortunately the SAG system was down that day. The tour operator refused to believe that I had gone to immigration and called me lazy . They said I couldn’t go on the tour and would lose my money. I ended up canceling another tour worth $80 Australian so I could sort this matter out. Other guides told me that there was no reason this issue could not be sorted out at the border. It ended up being very stress and expensive. Thanks Karen

My disappointment with the tour was that it was advertised as the tour guide speaking both English and Spanish but it was only Spanish that the guide spoke. The main reason I booked this tour was to have a tour guide fluent in English as your competition only offered Spanish only tours. I feel that I was misled in purchasing this tour although I did enjoy the scenery (which is why I gave two stars instead of one)

Fantastic guide, Ronaldo was brilliant. Such good vibes and fantastic driving, always felt safe, he clearly takes very good care of his car. The tour as a whole was fantastic, so beautiful, would really recommend. The food was great although we found the portions quite small, apart from that all good. The accommodation was brilliant both nights - thanks to Raul on the first night for such a welcoming stay.

El guía no hablo inglés, pero como entiendo español no me importó. Única cosa es que cambiaría: El cementerio de trenes es muy aburrido y feo y nada para terminar el tour!

A trip that you should do at least once in your life. The nature and the landscapes are magical, pictures do not describe the real beauty of these places. Heber was the best - many thanks for all your stories and information. Best guide ever!

L'excursion était parfaite !! Les paysages sont magnifiques et notre chauffeur a fait en sorte qu'on se sente la plus part du temps seul au milieu de ces plaines désertiques. Nous avons très bien manges pendant les 3jours et les hôtels étaient confortables! Nous recommandons à 100%.

Great tour, jam packed with activity.  Especially the second (rocks and llamas) and third day (Uyuni desert and pictures) were stellar. Food, especially breakfast, can be improved. It's important to note that you start at 5000 metres altitude and end at 3600 so altitude sickness will be real and can affect the experience, something none mentions anywhere which is quite important.

Amazing tour with beautiful scienery, delicious food and extremly friendly staff! 
After I recieved the booking confirmation I visited the local office. They told me about the necessary documents for the boarder crossing and how much bob’s I had to take with me.
The tour itself was just amazing. Beautiful cenery, delicious bolivian food and super friendly drivers!

Overall the trip was great, we saw the most beautiful places and experienced the true wilderness. The highlight was the salt flats on day 3, an amazing bucket list experience! The accommodation was of a good standard and the food was good quality as well. Overall we were happy with everything.

On day 1 & 2 our driver was great. There were some concerns about all the drivers on day 3 though, which I would like to feedback. They had told us to wake up at 4am, be in the lobby at 4:30am and we would leave at 5am. Instead the drivers woke up at 5:10am and we didn’t leave until 5:45am. This was really frustrating as we were all running on little sleep, the drivers seemed very unorganised on this day (and also very hungover, you could smell the alcohol) and it put a b it of a damper on the last day of the trip.

Wow where to begin. This was the best tour we ever did. I can’t believe how much beauty we saw in three days. For us it felt perfect and not at all rushed. We are very thankful for Raul, our driver. He knew so much and was just perfect. We would recommend this 200% There were so much tour operators and Howlanders chose a good one ☺️

Excellent tour. Renee, our driver, was very informative even though we only had basic Spanish and a very good driver. Lots to see and do each day. Accommodation good, especially on the second night in the salt hotel. Would definitely recommend using Howlanders.

Great tour! Once in a lifetime experience! We loved our driver and our group. The first day was a little exhausting (lots to see and up to 5.000m) but totally worth it. Definitely stay in San Pedro at least 2 days before departure to avoid headaches/height sickness. The accommodations are simple but the hospitality amazing. Also they tried their very best to comply to vegan etc passengers. Recommend 10/10.

The Tour was really nice. The places were amazing, the Food good and the driver was very nice. The only Thing we have to say is, that there were too many places to visit in a too short time. You couldn't really process what you just saw, because you've already been at another amazing place.. 

First the positive Points:
Our Driver, Elias was just perfect. The trip/tour was realy cool and impressive.
Negative Points:
The communication with Travel Cruz Andina before the tour started was terrible and very impolite. They didn't sent any information about the tour, only we would be picked up at 7 am. So we didn't get the important information about the costs respectively how many Bolivian Pesos we needed for the tour. This brought us in big troubles. Fortunately other tourists could help us with Bolivian Pesos. At the end of the tour, the person from the Travel Cruz Andina Office was also very impolite. No "hola" just staring on her mobile phone.

Very disappointed as we couldn’t go on the trip. I sent multiple emails to Howlander to confirm the requirements to travel to and back from uyuni. No one mentioned the need for a yellow fever vaccine. Someone called us a day in advance when we were in San Pedro atacama. His solution was to take a risk and try luck by paying off the border agents. We ended up not taking the risk and NOT getting a refund. Please very careful what you sign up for. I went back and checked all the email from Howlander and there was tiny link in confirmation email at the bottom that says that ‘ you are responsible for your own travel req’ . That is an awfully large assumption to make. It’s doesn’t take a lot to send check list. 

For all other tours we have taken in Chile and other countries we received clear instructions via WhatsApp upon booking the tour about every little thing including recommendations about how much water to carry for a tour. An international tour like this ought to do better. We LOST both money and the chance to see uyuni 

Everything was perfect. Carlos is the perfect guide. No complaints.

Maybe the last meal in Uyuni could have been better. It was poor.

Todo muy bien.  El paisaje es espectacular.  La guia fue muy buena.  El alojamiento y la comida fueron de buena calidad.

El unico problema fue que habia pagado por una habitacion simple y privado.  Hubo un error de comunicacion, y durante la primera noche, no tuvieron disponibilidad.  Despues de alguna persistancia, pudieron resolver el problema.  Para los viajeros que eligen esta opción, y que pagan más, les importa mucho que reciben la habitación privado y que no hay ambigüedad cuando llegan al hospedaje.

Overall very well organised tour, good communication, safe transportation and decent accommodation (especially second night in salt Hotel). Food was also OK and no hidden charges. The only downside was the itinerary on the last day, as early start (4 am) to see sunrise on the salt flats was a bit pointless imo, as we would prefer later start to be less tired on last day.

One of the most wonderful tours I have had in my life! Despite the driver having limited English and we having even more limited Spanish, we coped remarkably well. Just remember to change your watch when you cross the border and it’s better to shower at night due to solar heating.

This was one of the great travel experiences of my life! The guides and coordinators were fantastic. Despite the guide speaking very little English and us not knowing too much Spanish, we understood just fine. Heaps of sensational scenery; vicunas; wild llamas; flamingos; cacti - and those magnificent salt flats!just amazing!!!!

This was an amazing that anyone thinking of going to the Salt Flats should do. It was already fantastic but was made so much better by our amazing driver Mario. Please ask for him-20 years experience and it showed!

This was a real gem of a trip. Apart from the scenery, this is highly attributable to the driver Super Mario. A men who lifts the spirits to the very positive, a mechanic, guide and driver in one. Good value for money

My husband and I both loved this tour! We were a bit weary at first as we have heard a few horror stories but everything was awesome. Booking through Howlanders was quick and easy. They allocated us to a local agent who was also very easy to communicate with. We had slit more luggage than normal travellers but they were able to accommodate.

The accommodation was very good and it was worth paying a bit extra for a private bathroom. The food was beyond our expectations, a great way to taste local produce. I am still missing the food now.

Our guide “Gilmus”, from the local agent Estrella del Sur, was fantastic. He was very attentive and helpful throughout the trip. We only found out afterwards, after talking to a few other travellers, that he did so much more than the other guides. He told us folk stories and history of the sites, he also taught us how to take perspective pictures on the salt flats, and took us to small sites which were extras to the tour. He was very interactive with us and didn’t hesitate to answers any of our questions, which we had a lot.

Overall, a five star tour! We would definitely recommended to any of our friends and families.

We had an amazing tour. We didn’t know San Pedro de Atacama well so wanted to book with a European company to be on the safe side. Howlanders answered all our questions very quickly and made our tour easy, unlike other people who book in San Pedro and sometimes have issues as not all local agencies are good.
I highly recommend Howlanders, they are a bit more expensive than buying locally but at least you know you will have a pleasant stay.
I would encourage a Howlanders to get on TripAdvisor (I couldn’t find them there), as it will give them more visibility for future travellers (I was nervous I couldn’t find them there!).

La duración de 3 días del tour fue estupenda para poder disfrutar este lugar. Guía de la zona que explicó estupendamente. A pesar de que el clima fue un poco en nuestra contra, pudimos aprovechar el viaje. Recomiendo el tour.

El tour está muy chulo, aunque la zona es muy turística pero al ser tan grande no es muy molesto. 
El guía sabía muchísimo del lugar y fue muy simpático. 
Todo estuvo genial

Tanto el asesoramiento, el guía y el alojamiento fueron excelentes. 

Por precio la verdad que merece mucho la pena porque no encontramos ninguno más económico.
