Questions & Answers

  • Is it difficult to snorkel in Silfra?

Snorkeling in Silfra is very easy: you don't need a lot of power. During the first part of the excursion, a current coming from the glacier melt water will slowly push you along, so you can relax and enjoy the magical underwater life.

However, it is important not to be afraid of water and to have basic swimming skills.

  • Will I feel cold while snorkeling in Silfra?

Most people do not get cold while snorkeling, as drysuits keep you warm. However, in winter it can be a little colder when you get out of the water, as the air temperature in winter is usually colder than the water temperature.

  • What is the duration of this activity?

The complete activity lasts 2.50 hours, while the dive in the fissure lasts 40 minutes.
  • Why is the water of Silfra so clean?

Once the ice of a glacier melts, the glacier water seeps through the subway lava on its way to Silfra. The pores in the lava eventually clean the water, which finally allows us to explore the magical and mysterious life between the tectonic plates.

  • How many travelers are in the group?

This is a small group activity, so there is a maximum of 6 travelers per guide.
  • How do I know the exact meeting point?

The meeting point is at Thingvellir National Park. In the booking confirmation you will be provided with all the details to find the meeting point easily.
  • Is there an entrance fee to Thingvellir National Park?

Thingvellir has no entrance fee as such, but if you travel by car you will have to pay a parking fee.
