At the scheduled time, you'll be picked up from your selected location for the journey into Iceland’s rugged interior. The 3-hour drive takes you through remote landscapes to the breathtaking Fjallabak Nature Reserve, home to the iconic Landmannalaugar.
Stopover in Hella
At 8:45 AM, the 4x4 will make a short stop in Hella. If you're starting your journey here, be sure to arrive at the Olís Petrol/Gas Station Bus Stop at least 10-15 minutes early. You'll also have a chance to grab any last-minute snacks or drinks before heading deeper into the highlands.

Landmannalaugar Hut
Your first day will be an easy one. At 10:00 AM, you'll arrive at Landmannalaugar Camp by 4x4— the starting point of the Laugavegur Trail and other scenic routes in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve.
You'll camp near the huts, which have restrooms and showers (not included, 1,000 ISK per use). After check-in, you'll set up your tent. If you've booked the Camping Equipment extra, you'll receive a compact tent, mattress, and sleeping bag, with assistance available if needed.

Landmannalaugar Trekking
Camp is set! Now it’s time for a light 6.8 miles (11 km) and 4-5 hour hike starting and ending at the Landmannalaugar Camp. You’ll explore the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, walking through a surreal landscape of colorful rhyolite mountains, lava fields, and steaming hot springs—all at your own pace.

Landmannalaugar Camp

Laugahraun - Stórihver
This is the longest day of the trek, with 8-9 hours of hiking. Plan your time wisely and set out early to enjoy the journey without rushing. If needed, the camp staff can help you organize your day.
The hike starts with a crossing of the Laugahraun lava field, followed by an ascent to the geothermal area of Stórihver. From here, you’ll take in breathtaking views of the valley, and on clear days, you can spot nearby glaciers.
Hrafntinnusker
As you approach Hrafntinnusker, the landscape transforms dramatically, featuring striking black obsidian deposits. You’ll pass by the Höskuldsskáli hut, but the trail continues. Even in summer, snow and ice are common here, creating an otherworldly setting.

Jökultungur
The trail descends into the Jökultungur valley, a striking landscape of colorful mountains and geothermal activity.
